VISIT TO CAMBRIDGE
On Saturday 4th July we visit the city of Cambridge. Cambridge is a prestigious University City and is the world's oldest universities and leading academic centres. Cambridge comprises 31 Colleges and over 150 departments, faculties, schools and other institutions. There are different colleges in which around 8000 students study each year. A college is where students live, eat and socialise. It is also the place where students receive small group teaching sessions, known as supervisions. Each college is an independent institution with its own property and income. The colleges appoint their own staff and are responsible for selecting students, in accordance with University regulations. We arrived to Cambridge and we started the visit with the guide around the university. The first college that we saw was The King’s college, buildings on east bank, spanned by Clare Bridge. Then we continued and we saw The Trinity College which is the biggest college and one of the most beautiful colleges in Cambridge. It is very famous in Science because Darwin studied there and he discovered DNA. Also, it has a fascinate library with enormous windows; all the books are upstairs, only you can read them with daylight and you can’t use candle or something like this because it is very dangerous.Newton studied there 35 years. First he studied and how he was so clever he started to teach maths in the University. Also, he tried to create the space of the sound but he couldn’t because he hadn’t enough staff. He tried to make Echo in the library and he invented the cat’s door, as well. In 1960 Prince Charles studied there to get the degree. Another important college are: Queens, St John’s, Corpus Christi...The city is a fantastic place to walk for different streets where you can see wonderful buildings, typical souvenirs shops to buy gifts; you can find a small market in the square... Cambridge has many restaurants, pubs and bars to cater all tastes. We had lunch in The Eagle pub which is very nice English pub with a heated courtyard and popular at lunchtime. Finally, you can finish the visit taking a gondola ride, which it is a beautiful experience. We had a nice day and we enjoyed a lot visiting the city.
